Woodturning Introductions

Woodturning Experience Day

Enjoy trying the craft of woodturning and leave with three completed projects with no previous experience necessary! Dates are bookable up to 9 months in advance. New dates added: 21st September and 30th November 2024.

Our Woodturning Experience Day offers an unmatched, hands-on adventure that’s both thrilling and engaging. Guided by top experts, Martin Saban-Smith and Les Thorne, you’ll swiftly master the art of woodturning and start creating shavings in no time. By the end of the day, you’ll proudly take home three masterpieces crafted by your own hands.

We’ve taken care of everything for you—turners smock, tools, and even lunch. Your only task is to arrive and relish an incredible day of creativity and learning.

Begin by crafting a beautiful bud vase, mounting it to the lathe, and using gouges to shape it before finishing it to a super shine.
This is a fantastic project to learn the basics of how woodturning tools work.

Who doesn’t love a nice pen? The second project on this course involves making an elegant pen similar to the one shown here. Pens make excellent gifts, so perhaps if you were gifted the course, you could gift the pen, or the bowl back.

After lunch, get to grips with the dynamic process of turning your first wooden bowl!
Your bowl will be finished using a food-safe product that enables you to use the piece for snack-type items when the finish has cured properly.
